Officer Survival through Communication for Patrol/Detention

This course is open to all sworn or non-sworn Law Enforcement personnel.

This newly updated POST certified class includes updated suggestions for all line to command level staff members.

Presented through a combination of classroom lecture and practical exercises, this 2-hour course will provide students with principles and techniques that will help them better handle tense interactions with the public, focusing on both their survival and effective communication to de-escalate the situation.

Topics covered will include:

  • Four-step communication
  • Officer safety
  • Uninvolved bystanders
  • Video recording devices
  • Mental illness factors
  • Time vs need for action
  • Graham vs. Conner review

This course has been approved for 2 hours of POST training credit.

Chad served 23 years in Idaho law enforcement. As a commander, he achieved Advanced Patrol and Level III Detention certificates. At ICRMP, Chad trains law enforcement personnel with the highest level POST-certified training available to law enforcement and offers 30 state-wide certified classes. He also assists agencies in developing their own certified training departments.
