De-escalation and Active Shooter Response

This course is open to all sworn or non-sworn City Government and Law Enforcement personnel.
Presented through a combination of classroom lecture and PowerPoint presentation, this 2-hour course will provide students with principles and techniques that will help them better respond to and handle tense interactions during active shooter scenarios to include de-escalation techniques when deadly force response is not warranted.
Topics covered will include:
- Four-step communication
- Personnel safety
- Uninvolved bystanders
- Video recording devices
- Mental illness factors
- Time vs need for action
- Idaho Code reference firearms/self-protection
