This course is open to all sworn Detention and Patrol staff.
Presented through a combination of classroom lecture and practical exercises, this 4-hour course will provide students with an advanced review of report fundamentals for both proper documentation of officer activities and when submissions are needed for court proceedings. This presentation includes what to document in the event of a jail death, high-risk use of force and documentation needed should a case be brought against an agency in Federal Court.
Topics covered will include:
- Constitutional Law
- I.C. surrounding documentation
- Response to volatile situations
- Brady vs Maryland
- Deputy activities at the scene
- Civil Liability
Attendees for this class should plan on reviewing real life use of force events and practicing of handwritten documentation drills to denote what is viewed during the events reviewed.
This course has been approved for 4 hours of POST training credit.
