Inmate Grievances Your Legal Responsibilities

This course is open to all sworn or non-sworn Detention Center staff, medical first responders, or related public service agency personnel.

Presented through a combination of classroom lecture and class exercises, this 2-hour course will provide students with materials that will help them understand the importance of inmate grievances and the Federal and State Laws that govern them. Legal requirements regarding inmate rights will be discussed with an emphasis on the 1st, 4th, 5th, 6th, 8th, and 14th Amendments.

Topics covered will include:

  • Constitutional Law
  • Rights vs Privileges
  • Due Processes w/Grievances
  • Rights guaranteed
  • 8th Amendment guarantees
  • Federal Laws
  • State Laws
  • Deputy applications

 Please plan to attend this training, as this will be a great training for both the newer officers and those already in supervisory roles.

 This course has been approved for 2 hours of POST training credit.

Chad served 23 years in Idaho law enforcement. As a commander, he achieved Advanced Patrol and Level III Detention certificates. At ICRMP, Chad trains law enforcement personnel with the highest level POST-certified training available to law enforcement and offers 30 state-wide certified classes. He also assists agencies in developing their own certified training departments.
