SUMMARY:Legal Updates Use of Force for Patrol 2026
DESCRIPTION:Detailed Course Information: Link \nThis course is open to all sworn Patrol and Detention personnel in both Sheriff’s Offices and Police Departments. \nAttendees can expect a classroom discussion training\, where problem solving and decision making will be discussed. Recent national cases will be reviewed\, with both court findings and on body camera recordings discussed. Federal legal updates for 2025 will be given\, and your policy guidelines will be compared. \nThe following will be specifically discussed: \n\nTennessee v Garner\nGraham v Conner\nCalifornia v Hodari\nBrendlin v California\nBrower v Inyo County\nTorres v Madrid\n18 U.S.C. § § 241\n18 U.S.C. § § 242\nHeadwaters v Humboldt\nQualified Immunity\nFelix v Barnes\n\nThis POST certified class fulfills the new IDAPA rules for Use of Force required training for all Law Enforcement personnel. \nThis course has been approved for 4 hours of POST training credit. \nFor more information or to register\, please contact Chad Sarmento @ csarmento@icrmp.org \n\n		\n			\n				\n			\n			\n		 \n		\n			Chad served 23 years in Idaho law enforcement. As a commander\, he achieved Advanced Patrol and Level III Detention certificates. At ICRMP\, Chad trains law enforcement personnel with the highest level POST-certified training available to law enforcement and offers 30 state-wide certified classes. He also assists agencies in developing their own certified training departments.
