DESCRIPTION:Detailed Course Information: Link \nThis course is open to all sworn or non-sworn Detention Center and Supervisory Staff. \nPresented through a combination of classroom lecture and practical exercises\, this 2-hour course will provide students with materials that will help them understand the importance of inmate classification and current legal requirements. Legal duties regarding inmate classification will be discussed with an emphasis on a layered approach to oversight to ensure proper placement for safety and security. \nTopics covered will include: \n\nConstitutional Law\n8th Amendment concerns\nFarmer vs Brennan\nDeliberate Indifference\nMartin vs Alemeda County\nSheriff’s office requirements\nDeputy applications\nCivil Liability\n\nThis is one of the popular classes for both new detention center staff\, and those that have been working for many years.
